Gorgeous cottage with spacious, but quirky interior. very comfortable and warm in a lovely rural setting. Not short of owls! Lovely for a weekend break. No issues at all with the cottage, but the track from the main road is just that...it tested my old car to the limit. Surrounded by history and nature and would have got 5 stars all round, if the track had been less intimidating. We visited in deepest winter, so probably less of an issue in better weather.

Where do I start. I read previous reviews about this property but having now stayed there I'm having difficulty in umfersyanding the over positive remarks other reviewers have said previously. Mixed feelings overall. On the plus side it's in a beautiful location in the Northumberland country side, very quiet and peaceful. The property is spacious and well appointed and very warm however there are some significant drawbacks that could be easily remided. The drive to the house is like a pot holed farmtrack (be careful of your car's suspension). The footway to the property can be treacherous when damp or wet due to moss and wet mud.. seriously needs power hosing. Inside the property, which is a segregated area of the owners house, you are met with a very substandard kitchen floor surface that is very uneven and there is a high risk of tripping. If you have mobility issues think twice about this property. The floor is covered in lino that is split and torn in places. Really not good. Upstairs are the bedrooms and living room all of which are well appointed but the couch is well used with little comfort. The property was clean In most places but numerous cob webs on the walls and ceilings both upstairs and downstairs let the place down. Apart from one brief contact with the owner we otherwise had no other contact. The whole place need redecorating and the bathroom needs modernisation.. 3.8 out of 5. I would recommend if some of these issues were addressed.

Absolutely gorgeous. We stayed for two nights with our two children aged 6 and 3 and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Homemade scones upon arrival which were delicious and a lovely, kind touch! Owl Cottage itself is beautiful with lots of historical features, just what we like. Cosy and warm throughout, especially with the aga. High quality furnishings (I love the world map curtains!). Sumptuous bedding and very comfortable beds. One of my favourite features was the hidden reading nook, just fabulous. If you like old, quirky and tasteful, this is the place to come but if you prefer boring modern/corporate places you won't find it here. Set in a stunning location, it's like an oasis of quiet tranquility. Such good value for was on offer. Thank you Katherine and Peter and thank you Owl Cottage, we've made some lovely memories!
