We really enjoyed our two nights at the Riviera. There were many things that stood out as excellent, but the one we will remember the longest is the friendliness and professionalism of the staff. We were met at the hotel entrance by the concierge who was charming, had done his research and knew our names. Whilst we were checking-in he took our cases up to our room and then came back down to park our car. We had a lovely room (#105), ample space and a couple of comfy chairs in the bay window to sit, relax and look at the beach and the sea on the other side of the road. We had a king-size bed with good quality linens. The curtains were heavy and properly lightproof. Our bathroom was large and had both a bath and a separate shower. All the bathroom fittings were high quality and they all worked properly. When we went down to dinner, having made our menu choices in the bar, we were shown to our table, seated by the waiter and dressed with proper linen napkins. The tablecloth was white damask. And the food was excellent. Officially there are five courses but we found four was quite enough! The food is a good mixture of the traditional (I had a superb rib-eye steak on the second night) and the modern, well-presented and made using best-quality ingredients. There is also an excellent wine list. Service was friendly without being intrusive. Breakfast was excellent also. As with dinner, the portions dont look huge, but they are more than enough to satisfy! Sitting, after dinner, in the well-stocked bar, we thoroughly enjoyed the Saturday evening pianists repertoire which made for a relaxing end to the evening. Overall, we were very impressed by this hotel. It would not be inaccurate to describe it as old-fashioned as it demonstrates some very old-fashioned virtues such as properly trained staff, immaculate cleanliness and attention to detail throughout. We loved it and we wish wed found it before. We will be back!
