A lovely visit to an extraordinary building that has changed a lot over time. The tour and history was nice to glean. It is only open to the public a few times a year so planning ahead is a must. There are no refreshments or toilets on site so a trip to the church which is near by but inconvenient if you need to use the loo during your tour which last about an hour. Loughton Loughton meeting house is close by so you can combine the two but still only a day.

Amazing stay here absolutely spotless, steeped in history and a historic stay i will always remember. If you stay in a group like we did of 10 it worked out per night the same as a cheap b and b,so dont be put off with the price,it really is worth the money. Also you can take 2 dogs and the gardens are all walled so no need to worry. Recommended to you all.

Ive not stayed here, but have visited a couple of time to photograph. There are also a number of beautiful thatches and a great church to visit.

My daughter and I went on one of the guided tours held very occasionally at Shute Barton recently, Highly recommended! It has an incredibly interesting past and I had no idea it had been so influential or important. Beautiful property and our guide, Graham, was brilliant, really informative and made the time whizz by, thank you. oh, and they were serving FABULOUS cake in the church afterwards, if you get chance, go! More publicity for this tour and more of them, National trust?
