Systema is very different to any other martial art I have seen in that it focuses on developing each individuals skills and strengths and helps you to really learn about all the things your body is capable of and susceptible too so you can get the most out of as little as possible. There are no patterns or set moves, instead it is a free flowing dance that makes the most of the opponents movements and weaknesses. Every moves flows into the next.. or at least it will when i've been practising it for a bit longer! Watching the instructors and the other guys is pretty amazing in the way that everything just flows and works with such minimal effort. The great thing about Systema is that you learn something useful and practical in every single lesson that can be instantly applied to real life situations. I started Systema about a month and a half ago and have thoroughly enjoyed every lesson and have already learned so much. I am learning this art alongside Tae Kwon Do as I thought it would be very beneficial to develop both skill sets together. It is my aim to amalgamate the two to improve my use of both and I am very interested to see how I can integrate the principals of one to the other over the coming months and years. I highly recommend this art for anyone who wants to learn good practical self defence - the students and instructors are all great and the art is really interesting!
