Astonishing. Midwinter needs great food and beer. Poppy loved it for the free dog biscuits, Jane for the handwritten sign and a massive slab of Biscoff Tart. Everyone happy and the chance to walk it all off at the wonderful Shouldham Warren. Hidden gems....Early Summer now, and the warren, voluptuous, welcoming

My family and I went to this pub on Saturday the 22nd April 23 for a meal. There we four of us; quite clearly there were 4 of us. We ordered two steaks and two burgers, starting with two garlic prawns for the kids. The prawns arrived and there were 6 chewy prawns on top of three slices of bread and the whole dish was submerged in about 5 millimetres of butter. Very basic indeed. The two steaks had not been trimmed and constituted 50 percent fat and sinew. The edible meat were awful; tough and chewy. The chips were poor. A chip has to have a body to it, otherwise it is a crisp. Many of the "Chips" were thin cut offs which, when triple cooked, become dry and like a crisp. One burger turned up but they had totally missed my wife meal, which after asking, turned up when we'd finished eating our meals. All of this was reported to the waitress chronologically. I made the point at the till and they knocked off the price of one meal. Ordinarily I would have paid nothing but it was a celebration and the kids were distressed and embarrassed by my complaints at the table. Overall; The pub promises much but delivered poor food and a bad experience. When I can buy a better steak at Aldi for 4.99 and get better chips from the local chippy, then what is the point in setting up a restaurant and turfing out inferior food? The cashier was apologetic and kind, although her explanation of "Sometimes you get a bad steak", is poor consolation for my 120 bill. I read your last reply to criticism from a customer. It was sarcastic, unprofessional and pointless. If you don't accept my comments please do not reply with sarcasm.
