I had not sung for quite some time. I'd joined a few choirs to try out, but the songs just didn't hit the mark for me and I wasn't getting a buzz.
After a desperately stressful time at work due to the COVID pandemic I decided when we could begin to meet, that I would look again for a choir. Singing is known reduce stress and anxiety levels and contribute to a positive mental state. Working in mental health I realised that this was certainly something that I had benefitted from and I knew that improved my mental health and mood. I certainly noticed a difference when I wasn't involved with a choir !!
After an internet search I came across Lucy's Pop Choir and made contact with the York choir. I have been singing with them as an alto since September 2021 and have absolutely NO regrets. I love it !! I find the people within my section incredibly friendly and welcoming and both Lucy and Katy have been great choir directors. Their style of teaching is fun and as well as learning some great songs (which are NOT from the dark ages) we have lots of giggles along the way.
There is an opportunity to perform and raise money for charity if you'd like, but there is no pressure to do this at all. It really is a relaxed environment with no pressure to conform to wearing a certain uniform or makeup and I've made some great new friends along the way.
As I live at Pocklington it was great for me to hear that Lucy was starting a Pocklington and Market Weighton choir on a Tuesday evening commencing on 4th January 2021. Although I will be really sad to leave my Monday night group, I'm looking forward to not having to travel so far and meeting people more local still under the direction of Katy.
If you are thinking that you may like to join a choir, make new friends, have fun and learn some great songs I really would suggest joining.
