Expensive. Gone all upmarket. Used to be a good place to go for advice and plants. Now need a bank loan to walk through the door.

UPDATED WITH RECENT VISIT ( 16/4/23 ) Had seen a Christmas wreath decoration online and tried to buy it unsuccessfully using a garden gift voucher the parish council kindly awarded me this year. Went briefly to the Poplar Tree , one of the participating outlets but couldn't see the advertised item. Will try again as the Centre itself is always so well stocked and has a good , friendly atmosphere. I must say the yew tree I purchased from a lovely and knowledgeable lady who used to manage a Chester - Le - Street Centre , is flourishing well thanks to her kind help and advice. 16/4/23 Returned to Poplar Tree today ( late April ) hoping to get a good deal on very out of season Christmas decoration. Spoke to helpful Angela who initially dismissed the enquiry as all such stock is carefully packed away in some warehouse waiting to be unveiled come September time ready for people who insist on preparing for Christmas 4 months in advance !! When she saw I was being serious and had been unable to use a garden voucher online she duly sympathised as the online aspect of the business had only arisen to meet the demands of COVID - 19 restrictions. The best I could do today was to leave Angela with my name , address and email address and await her alerting me when the said wreath might be available WITHIN the centre for purchase. Did manage to spend a little money on something else .... what an incredible season it's been for unwanted dandelions destroying everyone's picture - perfect lawns ! ..... got some roundup spray to put a stop to all that !! Final update awaits in 4+ months time folks ! ELLIS COXON.
