J Cook landscaping provided a wonderful service. I contacted Jonathan, he came promptly and gave us a quote for what we required. We decided quickly, to give him the work because of his friendly and professional manner but also some very good recommendations from our friends, we then paid a deposit and was booked in. The company happened to be very busy at the time for obvious reasons, but gave us a date and stuck to it. The job was to clear our old patio and decking and replace this with a newer version. My wife and I are absolutely thrilled with the end product and was done very professionally and in a competent way. This has given us a lovely garden to enjoy this summer. Jonathan and his staff were punctual and pleasant, but also well mannered even in some dreadful English weather. Unprofessional and unreliable. In early February 2021 we agreed a price and time frame for work to be done by Jonathan which he would start in May 2021. The work was for a gravel drive, path, back patio, fencing, front step, and gate. We agreed a clear payment profile. Jonathan raised no concerns and agreed to the works, price, and payment schedule. Jonathan then delayed the work at the last minute and a few days before he was due to start the job, he tried to change the agreed payment profile. I was upfront an honest with him from the start about this payment schedule and he raised no concerns at the time or for the next 3 months. As such, I wanted to understand why he wanted to change it. If Jonathan was unhappy with payment terms, price, or work, he had 3 months in which to let me know but instead he left it until a few days before the work started this is unprofessional. I suggested a call or chat in person as I wanted to understand his concerns and come to a sensible position. However, instead of speaking about why he wanted to change the payment schedule he simply said he would not be able to do our job anymore due to the payment schedule. I said that I would be happy to discuss the payment schedule but he would not discuss it with me and said job was cancelled. We were not rude just wanting to understand why the last-minute change. The work was agreed months in advance, and we had spent 2,000 on materials (which we had at our property) and I had booked time off work. Jonathan was the one who changed the position last minute and then lets us down big time by cancelling job leaving us with thousands of pounds in materials and having to try and find someone new with little time. This is poor and not professional. Myself and my family feel very let down. I am really upset as we had a few quotes of which Jonathan was not the cheapest and we went with him as he seemed at the time friendly and trustworthy. I have now lost these other quotes and they are fully booked. I have had a lot of work undertaken at my property over the last years and have never had an issue with a job being cancelled like this and I have also been flexible and paid on time.
