Shodokan Aikido Sheffield is a serious club led by a world-class instructor Scott Allbright, who is one of the most senior Shodokan instructors in the UK. Emphasis of the training is both on kata (memorized form), as well as randori, the free application of the techniques against a fully resisting opponent. This way of testing the techniques, which also takes place in the competitive format makes Shodokan distinct from most other styles of Aikido. On the basic level, training improves fitness and flexibility, but later one notices some unexpected bonuses, such as being more ready to think on the spot and to improvise. Starting with a reasonable level of fitness, one may progress from beginners level to the 1st black belt in 3-4 years of regular training. The club is friendly and supportive. Several club members regularly take part in national and international competitions. Give it a go if you have an interest in martial arts!
