Massive history bug and me and my pal were driving back from working in the lovely historical area and we just seen the ruins over the carriage way and couldnt resist. Me and my friend was blow away with it all and the whole church and castle and the tombs, such history just sat there is amazing to go and see a bit of the past. Im taking my wife there in a few weeks, and was just wondering if theres any more historic sites around the area, any Anglo Saxon, Roman or any of the medieval period and wed be interested.

Lovely church, worth a visit when having a look around the Moreton Corbet Castle. Short walk from the castle. The church is very detailed with carvings, statues, and stained glass.

St Bartholomews Church in Moreton Corbet sits beside the picturesque ruins of Moreton Corbet Castle, linked together for centuries by the Corbet family. The church and castle are both of Norman origin. The chancel is the oldest section, the nave and large South aisle are 14th century and the tower is 16th century. Nearly all the construction was funded by the Corbet family. The Corbet familys mark is evident throughout the church. Beyond their own family pew-room off the South aisle, there are a pair of large tombs topped with effigies and many more wall monuments. One tomb is for Sir Richard Corbet and his wife, the other for Sir Richard Corbet and his wife, both dating from the 16th century. All the monuments are in good condition, the paint is still intact on the heraldry and other decoration of the tombs. The chancel was remodelled in 1905 in memory of Vincent Stewart Corbet who died the year before aged 13. The painted wooden reredos, featuring alabaster elephants is recessed into the window. The window reveal and East wall are stencilled with Arts and Crafts designs. The canopy above the altar is festooned with heraldic shields. The stained glass of the church is also of high quality and condition. The large East window and the trochoidal West window, both in the South aisle, are of particular note. The internal doors between the nave and atrium beneath the tower are glazed with fragments of medieval glass.
