Auction car with many problems, wasted money after one year I had to buy a new car

Buying a used car is no easy business. You can spend hours looking on the internet and even more hours driving here and there looking at so many cars that you start to lose the will to live. Its even more of a pain when you have one to sell! After a few months of searching for a used Range Rover I found one being sold by Colin at C & R Sales. Having tried to find a good used example myself and failing, I went to see Colin. Would he trade my car for the Range Rover? He was very frank about the condition of the RR and was equally frank about the condition of my trade in. All done with good humor but as any buyer should remember when buying anything: buyer beware! Colin sold my car on my behalf (no part exchange this time) and I purchased the Range Rover. All noted repairs were carried out before I took delivery and then some more work was needed. A pain in the neck for all parties but the extra work was done at Colin's cost. Lets stand back for a minute. Buying an old 'luxury' Range Rover for under 10k. Its not going to be a walk in the park. I had to 'kiss a lot of frogs' to find a half decent example before I found what I wanted. If you are not knowledgeable about your subject, don't expect a seller (be they traders or members of the public) to teach you. Pay for a third party to inspect. Remember- buyer beware. Its that simple. Colin is a decent man and his business is a stressful one having to look after both sellers and buyers. He has dealt with my needs in a friendly and patient manner so yes I would go back for more. My Range Rover is now working well and being used properly. Will it stop working soon? Probably. Will that be Colin's fault? No. It will be mine for wanting one of these overengineered cars and not being rich enough to buy a new one. Second hand cars are hard work and will break down. Buy a decent warranty and some road side recovery and get busy learning how your car works. Or, save up and buy a new one!

I've had many dealings with Colin at C&R car sales over the last few years and I've always been impressed with the level of service he offers the the quality of his stock. I would not hesitate in recommending him to friends and family, or to anyone who is looking to purchase one of his cars.

A one man sales band, a con man and an example of the worst kind of dishonest dodgy car dealer you might imagine. Sold us a car but never produced a v5. The car is still registered to another owner and the DVLA dont recognise our ownership. Made promises he seemingly never had any intention of keeping in respect to the car. Car had many problems that Colin failed to rectify and when pressed to do something initially tried to ignore us completely, not returning calls, emails or letters. He even tried to blame the previous owner of the car who he said owed him money! He then changed tack when we issued a court claim and tried to deny the problems he had previously tried and failed to fix, even existed. We turned up at his workshop on one of the multiple visits one day only to witness him assaulting (a full on physical fight) one of his own team who Colin had said had wrecked a clutch change on a Renault and didnt know what he was doing and so had cost him 1000. Colin had to be dragged away by others in the workshop at the time and it was a frightening incident to witness. His business seems to be in financial difficulty and he told us when we first met him that he was bitter that his wealthy father in law wouldnt help him out but would pay the school fees. We made the error of not seeing this as a red flag but his charm, forceful sales tactics and promises won us over. We are currently taking him to court and have spent 500 in fees. You will think hes a nice guy from his manner, he certainly seemed it at first, he is a charmer and full of promises. He pushed us to transfer the money directly to him rather than pay anything on card, even 100 and that was certainly another mistake on our part as we would have preferred to be claiming with the credit card Company as Co-defendent. His tactics in that respect were smart and we were fooled by his charm and promises. Do be aware there is a very real danger, financial and physical of dealing with this person and C&R car sales.

We bought a car from C&R Sales. This was a mistake, we should have heeded some of the online reviews going back a long time that we have subsequently seen. Colin, very charming at first, turns out to be a dangerous and aggressive man; beating up his mechanic in front of my husband for doing a bad job on a customer car. I was afraid for my husbands safety during this time he was attempting to get our car repaired, we were communicating on the phone at the time and he wasnt sure what to do. According to Colin this mechanic was autistic and the final straw was because he was whistling merrily as if it didnt matter when he had cost Colin money. My husband was incredibly understanding and offered to talk the problem through with Colin and help him calm down but Colin did not take him up on this offer. My husband left a factual review and an honest opinion of our experience and was subsequently sent messages threatening him to remove it and saying he was in danger if he did not. There are plenty of honest dealers out there. Save yourself time, worry and money and look elsewhere. Dont be tempted, but if you do make the mistake of visiting this place get everything in writing in advance, dont be taken in and definitely do not bank transfer or pay in cash (which is what we were pressured to do and naively did), use a credit card for additional protection even for part payment. Document everything post sale also, we were glad we did. This gentleman is a dishonest trader who sold us a sub standard vehicle with a comprehensive warranty and first tried to fix the problems but when it began to cost him money he tried to wriggle out of his lawful obligations at first and then turned to straight lies and let none of his promises. His adverts, (by his own admission to the county court) do not necessarily reflect the condition of the cars he sells and hugely over promised in our case. Ours had half of the things claimed in the advert actually working which was a real shame.
