^One slightly annoying thing (and, of course, there are other things, that I won't mention, that could be just a bit better) is that although wall mounted TVs were allowed to be installed in residents rooms until around just over a year ago, now they are not, as it has been decided that the walls in the rooms are not strong enough to support them - it doesn't matter what size the TV is apparently.

I originally gave this place a rating of just one star (which was very mean of me) but on further reflection amended it to a 3 stars. That may be a bit on the low side especially as this place has acted charitably towards me and the person I am connected to at the home (for convenience I'll say the person is called Jo). 3 charitable things they have done for us come to mind without having to think too hard about it. If I really tried I'd probably be able to come up with several more examples of their charity - I think they actually are a charity. One illustration is that they provide physiotherapy for residents at no extra cost. Also, I do not believe that other care homes would provide a significantly better service. I do find it wrong that many care homes receive near five star ratings (5 stars out of 5 is perfection and who achieves that?) by many reviewers given my experience of such places.
When I wrote the review that only gave this place one star I was unhappy because of a few things that had happened. The main one being that a new pair of spectacles had been broken; it is not known by whom - at a stretch Jo might have done it despite being almost completely paralysed (and, incidentally, being all but unable to speak. The new spectacles had taken about 2 months to arrive and replaced a pair that had gone missing about 4 or 5 months before. When they did arrive they seemed to me to be a rather uncomfortably tight fit for Jo - who looked relieved when, the new pair having been broken, an old prescription, loser fitting pair were put on.
Another thing that can be trying is the difficulty of being able to speak to anyone if you phone the home up with a query. That problem is much worse outside of office hours by which I mean roughly 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday excluding bank holidays.
I do have some other criticisms and now I have been able to raise those that I could remember and felt were important enough, with the the manager of the home.
I think the staff do an, at least, reasonably good job in meeting Jo's needs and those of other residents.
