Called into the pub on Bank holiday Monday, after having an amazing day out in Tunbridge Wells. On locating the pub, what an idyllic setting exactly what you want from a country pub. SADLY on entry the usual "East Sussex" welcome a very gruff and grumpy looking land lord, I joked that as all the taps stated "Sold out" that "How does a pub sell out of beer" and the curt reply was "The customers have bought it all and we are closing shortly" ask a silly question......!! While trying to engage in a jovial conversation, the current landlord (who is shortly leaving we found out from other customers) stated that only 1 cider was available and stout which my partner doesn't drink...they did however have a selection of wines, soft drinks and spirits...none of which were offered. The greeting was Gruff, no smile, no engagement and basically wanted us to leave , we had planned to have a bite to eat but the "welcome " put us off... I understand that a new landlord is due to take over, so we will give them another chance...if you are reading this, an you know a decent place to eat (any where in east Sussex) and drink who are friendly and want to welcome customers please let us Know. In the 6 years I have lived here, it's the "welcome" which lets hospitality businesses down. Try a bit harder....a smile doesn't cost anything.

A very nice local pub. Amazing old building, with local art on the walls that you can buy. Some good Sussex ales and the food is tasty. The chips are especially good!

Good rural (ish) pub where we regularly go after a dog walk. It's very dog friendly.
