I recently bought some Paterson's Shortbread Fingers at SPAR Sedbergh and found them to be a very poor quality. Actually, they were completely inedible. I tried giving them away to guests who politely but definitely declined. And so in the end I could only throw them away. I then decided to write to SPAR to complain and sort of expected them to be helpful. Well, what a disappointment. I received a reply asking me for all sorts of detail about the product, it's use by date and so on. For heaven's sake they still had boxes of the stuff on sale in the store (at a reduced price to shift it I suppose). They refused to give me a gesture of goodwill. Crikey, I've received a better standard of customer-care from a pound store in Kendal. I bought a defective product for which they immediately apologised and sent me a voucher for three times the purchase price. They weren't at all interested in getting details about the product as they knew what it was. Instead, they were focused solely upon their product not meeting my expectations and compensating me for the inconvenience to which I had been put. SPAR have a rather different understanding of customer-care. Perhaps best described as 'couldn't-customer-care-less'.
