Im writing this review as a true reflection, as a daughter of a resident who has been in the home for the past year. Im not a hairdresser, an entertainer, a gardener, staff in the kitchen, a firm supplying the care home, writing a 5 star reviews, that cannot reflect the actual situation in the care home, during the pandemic, in this last year. Talking of hairdressers, my mum last had her hair cut in Sandhills over one year ago. The hairdresser has been in once, one day in December, before the home was closed again due to Covid outbreaks. Unfortunately my mum wasnt among the lucky 3-4 residents offered to get a hair cut that day. My mums self esteem was at an all time low( very proud of her appearance normally) The chiropodist has only been allowed in twice, in a year. Whilst I understand the care homes have had an extremely difficult year to deal with, the management at Sandhills/ Bupa has left a lot to be desired. In my opinion, communication could be improved. My 89 year old mum contracted Covid in the home last May, she was one of the lucky ones to survive. The visiting for the next of kin has been restricted to outside a window, in all weathers. Mum was not allowed to see her adult Grandsons, even on a window visit. This has had a detrimental affect to her mental and physical health. Sandhills has had a purpose built Covid safe visiting room since November 20, which they were not allowed to use due Covid outbreaks. Continuous Covid outbreaks from October 20 to March 12th 21. (Inside visits finally commenced in March, with testing) I have contacted the CQC regarding infection control concerns. The activities for the residents has been limited over the last year, as there is only one activity coordinator for the whole home. Certainly no entertainment in the home, due to Covid restrictions. I have no complaints in regards to the basic care, the carers try their best under difficult circumstances. The Chef has been helpful in regards to mums gluten free diet too. Having had family experience of 3 care homes( Mums current home and MILs) I feel Im able to compare different aspects and give an open and honest review.

I have performed at Sandhills court for the residents on numerous occasions before lockdown and found it to be by far the happiest and most loving of all care homes that Ive performed in. The residents are absolutely delightful and the staff participate in the performance and its always such fun. Its a beautiful home to be in , I know if I had to go into care I would choose Sandhills without a doubt! The staff are very loving and welcoming, the residents say that the foods really good, they have great facilities there to enable to have a social life and Ive witnessed really loving friendships amongst the residents and staff in that home. Wonderful!
