The Parish Church of St. Thomas and St Edmund has the largest Doom Screen in the United Kingdom. These medieval works of art were intended to remind the congregation of the judgement that would befall them when the end came. Painted around 1470, it was covered with lime whitewash during the Reformation and not seen again until 1819. Following its most recent restoration in 2019 it is back to its medieval, vibrant glory. On Saturday and Tuesday mornings there is an informal cafe serving hot drinks, cakes and chrese scones at very reasonable prices.
