Well, it seems Cafe Zara has had a management change since our last visit. Things are a bit different here now. Some good changes, some bad. Let's start with the bad so we can end on the good right? Service... Specifically speed of service... Not great. Waiting for the main meal took a little while - but the outside between that and dessert - it felt like I watched planets be birthed, civilisations rise, only to be snuffed out by the inexorable grind of the millstone of time while waiting to order just one more cup of tea and a slice of cake. Truly, some were not as patient as I and walked out while I waited and waited... Good food is however worth waiting for. Was it worth the wait...? Eh. I had the Full English - the standard size of the all day breakfasts served here and that set me back just shy of ten pounds. Bit steep for that we got - one sausage, one bacon, mushrooms, two hash browns, beans and an egg on toast - and I opted to not have the tomato. The sausage was... A bit sad. It would have I think been quite a nice sausage if it wasn't completely carbonated on the outside. The bacon - if you like crispy heed this warning - ask for it to be crispy, I am a lover of all bacon but this bacon was very much on the might still oink if given CPR side of the crispy scale. The beans came in a little pot which I agree with in principle - beans just spilling across the plate truly annoys me - however they weren't as hot as I would like. I set my hash browns up as a barricade and put them into their bean containment zone. The hash browns however I must say were wonderfully crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. The rest... Was unremarkable. Decent food, no complaints. Dessert was the lemon cake for me because they didn't have enough chocolate, and the walnut cake we so loved last time seems to have been a casualty of the change. Sad times. The cake itself was nice, though the icing a little too thick for my personal tastes. The staff, though not exactly rushed off their feet seemed to be struggling to keep up a bit. As mentioned service was slow, I wonder if the change over is still fairly new and they're getting into the swing of it still... Either way they were incredibly friendly when we did interact with them which was nice. Over all... 3 stars this year. Hopefully we can get that star back next year when/if we visit again.
