I just left the branch and this time I really have to express my displeasure. Extreme informality today has been adorned with a condescending attitude. The employee mocked us to our face at our preferred choice of how to use one of the bank's basic services, namely depositing a cheque. Of course, employees can and should inform their customers about the facilities of the service provided by the bank, but this should never tread on the customer's wishes. In my opinion, laughing and a disrespectful attitude are unnecessary to what should define good customer service and with which the customer feels in a comfortable environment.

At my branch appointment, the lady that I spoke to (Andrea) could only help with less than half of what I wanted. When asked very simple questions like "how do I convert my credit card", she kept saying "I don't know" over and over again. I wasn't treated with any sort of warm welcome or friendliness; I felt that I was spoken to arrogantly. Luckily I bought along copies of documents that I was never asked for, otherwise I would have been stuck. To top it off, she essentially dismissed my questions she couldn't answer and diverted to me to telephone banking, to which I had already tried to use for hours on end beforehand. Probably the worst customer service from any business that I have dealt with in the UK. When trying to convert my current account and credit cards to different products, I was told conflicting and false information on numerous occasions. In response to this I made a written complaint to HSBC, to which HSBC themselves upheld, and even gave me 30 compensation because they saw how poor their own customer service was. When I finally managed to book an appointment in branch, the telephone banking agent booked my appointment on Saturday at 4 PM, even though I repeatedly reminded them that the branch closes at 1:30 PM on that day; they kept saying "no, the bank will still be open". On Saturday I got a call from the branch at around 12 PM asking to reschedule the appointment because they realised that the branch would be closed at the time of my appointment. Genuinely the most disorganised and sub-standard customer service that I have received from any bank in the UK or abroad.

Poor customer service and very rude attitude. Will never visit this branch again. If you need any service from HSBC, I suggest you travel 30 mins further and visit the Coventry branch who were extremely helpful today despite a long queue. No wonder why there weren't any customers at the Rugby branch!
