We used Big Day catering for a big birthday party and they were amazing. The food was brilliant and the staff were really helpful and went out of their way to make the evening go according to plan. Would definitely use them again and have also recommended them to a friend for her daughter's wedding

I put one star because the option of zero was not there. We recently attended out cousins wedding at Longstowe hall (20th July 2018) where Big Day Catering were charged with providing the food. There were several vegans and vegetarians among the guests as well as two guests requiring vegan/gluten free meals. Those who ate meat were faced with greasy chicken wings and beef so raw the blood flooded each white table cloth leaving an awful puddle of blood. Off putting for the most ardent of meat eaters. The meat was described as greasy and too tough to eat and at least one guest sent her plate back only to have it returned with equally uncooked tough meat. The veg was worse than a school cafeteria. The broccoli was hard, it had clearly been shown the hot water then removed and was brown in places. I am told the the cauliflower was equally uncooked, although I did not eat any. The carrots and parsnips were so thin they too were too tough for guests to eat, again I did not eat those as I suspect they had honey on, although when I asked the staff no one knew and no one made an effort to find out. The so called vegan gluten free meal was bland, boring, disgusting, tasteless, the list goes on. A Tesco bun, an open cup mushroom, part of a Gosh Moroccan bake squished into the mushroom, the lid of the bun. No salad, no dressing. (And was charged at 60/ head!!!) This was served with chips that had clearly been left out of the freezer before being put in a fryer for what could only be minutes then literally tipped onto our plates. They were pale, soggy, disgusting and two were still partly frozen. Dessert for meat eaters and vegetarians was a choice of sticky toffee pudding which we were told was really nice and a cheesecake, which I believe was also enjoyed however, the vegan gluten free option was a fruit salad in some sweet liquid, that was akin to one you would buy in a hospital cafeteria, only worse. Veganism is a protected belief by law. Coeliac disease is NOT a fad to be taken lightly but, as the name suggests, a disease, which causes stomach cancer if left un-diagnosed. It is time these so called catering companies woke up to the fact that not everyone eats animals and not everyone can tolerate any form of wheat or gluten. Of the small amount of my meal that I ate, I was left with an exceptionally upset stomach which continued for the next four days which showed that they cared less about protecting against cross contamination. Zero effort and zero imagination went into the vegan/g/f meal. Guests were served with canapes but despite being told there would be vegans, vegetarians and at least one coeliac there, they made no effort to provide safe canapes for those guests. The staff were clearly overwhelmed and under-trained. I would not recommend this catering company to anyone for any reason and sincerely hope my cousin receives an apology and a refund.
