I treated my mum (and therefore dad too!) with Polpetta's Mother's Day Special box yesterday. As to be expected, it was beautifully presented, with a ribbon around the box (forgot to photo that!) plus a little bunch of tulips inside, along with the 3-course meal. Mum's message to me after they had it last night was "It was all delicious thank you. Both pastas were lovely and the tarts were yummy xxx". Thanks Polpetta!
Original review, Feb-2021:
Wow! You have to try the food from Polpetta: it's amazing! A friend - another fan of Italian cuisine - introduced me to them. Tom and Chiara, who recently setup their business in Royston and offer freshly made pasta, polpette and other Italian treats for delivery. You can also find them on the Royston Market on a Saturday morning: you'll need to get there early though as they're proving popular!
My first order was delivered by the chef, Tom, to my door. It all came beautifully presented, with string bows around the box holding the fresh, hand-made pasta. Even the little cube of butter I needed to finish off the pasta dish I ordered came wrapped in paper with a sage leaf on top, and tied with a little bow too. This attention to detail is one of the things that sets Polpetta apart, and shows Tom and Chiara have real passion for what they do.
The pasta I ordered - Mezzelune Tartufate, half-moon pasta stuffed with truffle, mushroom and ricotta - only took a couple of minutes to cook (just boiling water required), then tossed in some melted butter with the sage having gently fried in it. It was divine! Indeed, I sent a message to Tom and Chiara to say "... My taste buds honestly think they're back in Italia, enjoying the finest of their cucina." It really was delicious!
I also ordered a pot of their Polpette alle Melanzane (aubergine, breadcrumbs, parsley and parmesan), which took a few minutes to heat in the oven. I served them with just some rocket and grated cheese, but they could also be had on their own or with a tomato sauce.
I'm very much looking forward to trying their other dishes, and will post some more photos when I get a chance. Please do try them out too!
Update: I've now had the Zuccotti (butternut squash, ricotta and pecorino filled pasta served with butter and sage sauce and parmigiano cheese). Another beautiful dish! If you love great quality Italian food, you won't be disappointed.
