Carolyn Rose School of Sewing - Fabric Shop, Sewing Machines and Classes

This place has really disappointed me, how much I am in favour of local small businesses but not when it actually takes through advantage of the customers. If they change the date of the course you are booked on, you will get a polite email, but if you change the date, you are faced with 50% fees.... in the end I just left it and did not even request the refund, certainly lost a customer though.

A lovely selection of fabrics. Do ask, you never know what they might have tucked away. Knowledgeable staff. Sewing classes are great value, learnt so much. Review update Dec 2022: I'm a bloke, early 50s with a past career in IT. I find sewing to be the perfect combination of technical challenge, a desire for precision, and a huge sense of achievement. At the start of the year I could just about run a straight stitch on a machine, but I struck lucky finding Carolyn Rose School of Sewing. Initially I attended a 6 week course, picking up the necessary skills to understand commerical patterns, cut out and sew some pyjama bottoms. I subsequently signed up for adhoc "time to sew" sessions, where Carolyn is on hand to share her vast experience and tips. What a difference it has made. I'm now producing shirts. I've made a heavyweight overshirt for the garden and also a Xmas shirt for a friend as a dare. Collars are my nemesis and would have taken me many weeks to figure out at home. Carolyn helped me crack it in a single session. Sewing is definitely not just for kids and ladies. I have been made to feel very welcome by Carolyn and the team at the shop. Give it a go!

I did the six week sewing beginners course, it was excellent, the explanations were clear and Caolyn is an excellent teacher. Going back for a further course and have taken the plunge and bought all the toys

I had the best day on the beginners tote bag course. Carolyn was a brilliant teacher, the explanations were clear and instructions were easy to follow. Having a smaller group also ensured that we all got the help we needed. I would absolutely recommend the course to anyone wanting to have a go at sewing. It helped give me the confidence and kick to get started with a hobby I have always wanted to take up. I have since bought a machine from Carolyn, who helped to advise me on what was really best for me and my level rather than the hard sell on the most expensive item like some stores.

If you are thinking that sewing could be for you then attending Carolyns Beginners class is a must. I enjoyed every minute and Carolyn made learning this new skill fun and easy. I cannot recommend this class enough.
