I cannot express highly enough the face-to-face and technical care Clarendon Manor have given to my parents. They helped manage an emergency move from several counties away just before the Pandemic with warmth and understanding. This continued under the extreme demands of the past years. Their duty of care is excellent - they have acted early and with informed foresight, often locking down early to protect residents and keeping families well informed of the changing situation, finding compliant alternatives to in-home visits wherever they could to maintain family contact, including a virtual portal. They were always actively aware of the challenges and worries this presented to residents, staff and families alike, acting with patience, common sense and genuine empathy. As Dad declined they encouraged Mum to try and mix, introducing her to residents she might befriend in advance of Dad's death from old age and heart issues. This sensitivity continues and Mum's dignity and options are always regarded. My father chose Clarendon Manor because of it's friendliness and homeliness. Dad moved in first, and as soon as a room became available, Mum moved into a room next to his and they were encouraged to personalise their rooms with small furniture and pictures from their home. Visitors are welcomed and where useful, greeted with updates or advice to make visits better . After Dad's death, senior staff even took personal time after work to sit with Mum. Staff pop in on a very regular basis to just say hello - pastoral care is not just a catchphrase, here. Rooms are frequently refurbished and communal areas - even corridors - are decorated with pictures and ornaments to stimulate a home-from-home atmosphere. Details which matter. Dad referred to Clarendon Manor as 'the hotel'! The enclosed garden and patio are simple, attractive and very practical places, with a meandering, anti-slip pathway for residents to safely exercise on the lawn and there are a variety of areas indoors where different friendship groups of residents can sit and socialise. Residents are invited to join group activities, but their choice is respected if they do not wish to do so. It was a very good choice. Sally Ratcliffe
