We visited here as part of the group ticket for Ripon's 3 museums. Although the museum isn't huge, if you take the time to read all the information, you could spend a good couple of hours there. We learnt a lot and it was interesting to build upon what we'd learned at the Courthouse Museum. My daughter particularly enjoyed it and spent time completing the activity sheet provided. There were quite a few tactile exhibits that allowed the kids to get hands on and experience what it would have been like there. An interesting education for all ages.

The person who thinks it's OK to charge 8.50 for this needs to be locked up in one of the exhibits. This place is utterly rubbish. You might get 15 minutes out of it it for your 8.50 and in that time you're going to get to see lots of printed boards and not much else. If this was free it would probably be worth the time, but it's not so it isn't.

Gruesome small prison. Wonderfully descriptive with photographs, books and items used in the past. Haunting stories, real cells and secure doorways to make anyone's heart sink. Lovely helpful and friendly staff, especially the door man.
