How wrong I was, after 30,000 miles and 5 years the timing belt shredded which destroyed my engine. On complaining it turns out they had not fitted a new water pump which any decent mechanic would do since they wear just like a timing belt.
The receptionist said they always fit a new water pump but for some reason on mine they hadnt.
The company would not do anything but the receptionist was very polite and personable. Whilst the man who was sat alongside her was the epitome of miserable.
I can categorically state at the time i was not asked if i wanted a water pump fitting. I am now 78 and started rebuilding motorcycle engines in my teens and have went on to rebuild car and tractor engines including new timing belts, idlers and water pumps.
At the time i must have been too busy to do the job myself and have known for a long time the damage a faulty timing belt, idler or water pump can do .
Also i told the young lady i could not bring the car in because i had re moved the cylinder head and with it the engine supports. It is now not a case of just fitting a new timing belt etc because it has five bent valves and likely camshaft damage.
