I would not recommend Garlands. I have previously left a 5 star review for them. My most recent experience has shown their true colours. These guys are window cleaners. That appears to make their style a high volume of small jobs done quickly. Even to quote they are in a rush. Maybe there is a place for this. Although our usual window cleaner is not in a rush like Nick is. So probably, in reality, there isnt. Nick and his team have cleaned our roof and replaced a few roof tiles. On this kind of job I was satisfied. We asked them to take on a slightly larger roofing task and they refused. I respect that. I was a repeat customer. I will not be using their services again. The most recent job went wrong. We asked them to do some exterior painting on our wooden windows. The first attempt was very rushed. The finish was terrible. Afterwards they agreed the prep work was not appropriate. An agreed 2 coats was applied as one thick coat without much prep. One of those coats should have been a primer/undercoat. When I asked Ashley how he was going to apply 2 coats of paint in one day with a recoat time of 16 hours.. He told me that no painter would wait this long. I have used decorators before that do. The quote was for the job to be completed over 2 days. It was crammed into one due to poor weather. I found telling Nick the job was poor quite unpleasant. Firstly, I dont take pleasure in telling someone they did a bad job. More concerning was his demeanour was quite intimidating. Every time I stepped away from him, he stepped closer etc.. His language was also intimidating. It was only after he left that he sent a text message apologising and agreed that the prep work was not adequate. To their credit, they had another go at the job. This is also an acknowledgment of the poor quality of the first try. In my view the paint will still not last. If they didnt prep and prime before the first coat, doing it before a second coat is likely pointless. When the first coat starts to peel the second coat will come off with it. They definitely didnt remove the first coat. The finish is also still well below what I have had previously. They also painted the windows shut this time. It took multiple visits for them to free them. I suggested a discount as a gesture of goodwill. Nick quickly became intimidating again. Weirdly followed by apologies again like the first time. I paid in full (under protest).
