Barchester - Austen House Care Home

I would like to give this review based on the past experiences and not the presence from the staffs point of view. If you think that now carers are being paid the lowest rate for extremely hard work - both physically and mentally - you can imagine how it was many years ago .. around 5! And the receptionists were so neglectful - I was asking Wendy (she probably doesnt work there anymore) for references for months ! She always said: soon or will do. So dismissive! In the end I didnt get them. But when recruiting staff they were waiting until they got references through - what an annoying process! There was this very strange male nurse who kept demanding efficient provision of care, while simultaneously asking for different things, such as changing the beds A carer needs to focus on one thing at the time .. Pinoy. There is limited transport there, because one bus goes from Reading bus station only and is often late.. so you would be in an uncertain position without a car.

I had the opportunity to spend some time at Austen House. Some really great staff, who have been a pleasure to work with and get to know. As always it's hard to leave the residents but its been lovely having the opportunity to meet and spend time with them. I will miss our dancing sessions Kind regards Caroline
