By the look of things this was once a good site, but is now in serious decline. We made a group booking and on arrival wete met by a very confused lady who couldn't understand why three vehicles were booked under one name then wanted to charge more than the stated price and after a going around in circles for a while finally accepted the original booked price. The site is a nice paddock next to the main house with horses and sheep in adjacent fields, however the farm is also used by Tarmac so on the first night (Thursday) there was constantly big HGVs driving up and down the drive and unloading in a nearby field. Friday and Saturday night was not so bad but some HGVs parked up near us and left their engines running for some time. I know this is a working farm but this is a lot more than I would expect from farm machinery. The facilities are in a barn next to the house and include one toilet two showers, a washing area, washing machine and fridge. There was a small building labelled as gents toilet but looked so run down none of the men in our group used it. Everything else looked very neglected, the toilet and showers worked but looked ike they only recieved an occasional cursory mop out, no attempt seemed to be have been made to clean grime and mould from the corners of the shower trays. The washing area was filthy with dirt that had fell from the open rafters, again there had obviously been no attempt to clean it in some time. The fridge didn't work and was so filthy I wouldn't recommend it anyway. On the second night the heavens opened and so we asked the lady owner if we could eat our meal in the function room in the same barn as the facilities and perhaps even light the log burner in there, this started another round of confused conversations starting with her not understanding what room we were talking about, developed into her thinking we wanted to light a fire in the middle of the farm machinery barn before settling on we could use the room but not light the fire. There is apparently a waste disposal point but we never found it and we were reluctant to ask as God knows where the conversation might have gone. On the good side the site is within easy walking distance of the steam heritage line.
