I seem to have missed the memo that restaurant "service" these days entails ingoring your guests until they impatiently raise their hand trying to catch the attention of the staff. Sadly, that was my experience today at Cafe Cecilia, where I took my husband for his birthday lunch. I liked the unpretentious food and the quality of the ingredients (we had onglet steak, pork shoulder, bread and butter pudding, the bread was exceptional). Sadly, none of the front of house staff seemed happy to be there, there was no hello and how are you and what else would you like or how is your meal going, or even thank you and bye (we passed three members of staff on our way out). The experience felt very sterile and transactional. I can think of many other places in Hackney that dish out equally good food, but serve it with passion and smile (...and don't run out of the "special of the day" by 1.15pm)...

Third time coming here and I feel I need to leave a review! Pork terrine with apricot was really fresh and the best terrine I had in London so far. The tagliatelle with meat ragu was tasty. The best dish I have every time I visit is the steak with peppercorn sauce and fries. The baileys ice cream was delicious. Will certainly be back again

Very average, a little try hard cool, more for Instagram foodies than anything else. Had high hopes. Try Deptford for better food and friendlier people.

The food is okay but on the expensive side for the size of the dishes
