I used John Howe Solicitors to serve a section 21 earlier this year. (Something I could have done myself for free, but wanted to be done right so paid hundreds to have it done properly). The initial meeting was fine and I paid up front. A few days after the date for the Section 21 to be served had passed, I called up for confirmation that it had been sent as I was told I would receive a copy of the document on the day it was sent. It took 17 days for me to receive this confirmation (fine, was a busy time for solicitors. Wasnt that worried). I waited the 2 months for the Section 21 to expire and almost 2 weeks before expiry my tenant confirmed they would not be leaving. I emailed Jenna to ask for prices for her to carry out court proceedings and asked to arrange escalation for the day the Section 21 expired. No response. Over the next few weeks I emailed and called the office to no avail. Receptionists said theyd leave a message but Jenna never called or emailed back. 5 days after the court proceedings should have been submitted (3 weeks after my first contact to request escalation), I gave up and contacted a different solicitor to pick up my case. Only to be told by the new solicitor that the served Section 21 wasnt even legal!! This was a very upsetting time for me and I was heartbroken that Id wasted hundreds of pounds, but more importantly months of waiting that I would now have to do all over again. I called Jenna again, again receptionist failed to put me through. I explained the situation to the receptionist and that I was not happy and she put me on hold, spoke to Jenna and said I would receive a call back by the end of the day. I did not. The following morning I called again and begged for a call back. Jenna FINALLY called me back, and confirmed the Section 21 was incorrectly served. At this point I was heartbroken and did not want to speak to or deal with this solicitor ever again. Jenna giggled about the mix up and apologised. I got a refund and we parted ways. My new solicitor was FANTASTIC! Communicated with me every step of the way and served the section 21 correctly. Actually earning every penny I gave them! I totally understand solicitors are human and mistakes can be made, I can be empathetic with that, but the lack of communication and customer service was disgusting, disheartening and shameful. Will never use or recommend this solicitor to anyone.
