Great views from the top of the Castle keep over the harbour and surrounding area, with Portsdown Hill and the Naval station.
The grounds are free, but the Castle is chargeable, and a good place for a picnic - there's a Tearoom in the church and a van near the entrance selling ice-cream, coffees etc.
Plenty of parking but, it's not free as indicated in other reviews - it costs 1.10 per hour.
The Coastal walk goes around the outside of the Castle walls so there are some good walks.

It's worth paying, in my opinion, for the depth of history contained within, and the chance to climb the many stairs to the top of the keep. Look out for graffiti dating from the Napoleonic prisoners of war.
