Good food at a great price and the owners are friendly. Only a short walk to the beach.

Had a very lovely rock salmon when I last was there (about 2 years ago); waited 10 minutes and it was done! Hope they still do it; it's getting difficult to find this, my favourite fish!

Walked in there was no atmosphere the place was silent and almost dead. He threw in a square block of fish with batter on, as it came out the batter was overdone, little brothers fishcake was "mushy with very little fish", chips with either under cooked or overcooked and very greasy. By far the worst fish and chips I've ever had. However the lady in the shop was polite.

Firstly, one of the older reviews below mine rated this place a one star because one of the owners had a heart attack. Thats an incredibly distasteful sentiment, as if your own convenience is more important to you than somebody elses health. Now onto my review, Uncle Bucks is very average. I want to rate it higher because I like the atmosphere in this place and the older couple who run it. The big painting on the wall is nice to look at, the classical music they usually play is a bonus for me, and the prices are exceptionally good. However, the food itself is standard stuff. The fish is usually square, covered in breadcumbs if I remember correctly, but I might be wrong. It was average, about as good as the ones you get frozen from the supermarket. I usually get the veggie burger from here, and its superb, very very good. The chips are nothing special, but I do recommend getting large for the best value (one person can eat it all). All in all, Uncle Bucks is a pleasant experience if youre looking to take time off cooking. Beware of their opening times which are sporadic. Overall, its nothing special, but not bad either. Just a family run business by an elderly couple, so its best to support these types of places instead of your local McDonalds.

Best place with Cod Roe in Portsmouth. Food cooked with a fryer, tasty and very cheap. Owners, an old couple, very nice.
