I brought in my car that was running rough. They inspected the car and sent me a quote for over 5000 to repair a timing chain issue and replace the exhaust. Shocked I looked to other garages that could do this locally. The exhaust was repaired by a local garage for 30, much less than the 1200 Richmond quoted. The timing chain was repaired for a negotiated price of 1515 (I have since found official Citroen garages that will charge a third of this). When I relieved the car there were no errors and it ran smoother than it did when I took it in. 2000 miles later it threw an engine warning light, a diagnostic scan showed this was likely the timing chain again. On speaking to Richmond they were evasive and said I could have the car trailered to them at my expense (I no longer live in Portsmouth) where they could work on it and would tell me if there was an installation error or a part failure. If the parts were faulty they could make a warranty claim, if it was incorrect installation (and they felt like admitting that) they would cover the cost of work, otherwise I would be on the line again. Not wanting to take that risk and on the advice of their service manager Ian, I took the car to a Citroen garage local to me. The garage I took it to cost a fraction of what Richmond would cost and quickly diagnosed the issue as the inlet cam being 6 degrees out. Something which is 100% and installation error. Now I am being told that without having taken the car directly to Richmond they won't offer me any refund of the work they did. Do not use Richmond for repairs they overcharge and underdeliver.
