Stopped here after a long walk from Portinscale to Castle Crag and back and were treated to freshly made coffee and homemade cakes. We had the lemon drizzle with cherries but there was a wide selection available even at the end of a bank holiday Monday - including the world famous scones. We sat outside (the weather was kind to us all day) on a small outside area and enjoyed lovely views of Derwentwater. Really nice visit.

Very disappointed with this cafe. After looking on a specific website for people with coeliac, this cafe came up recommended for gluten free scones. So I called ahead to ensure they would have some available for us, gave my name and an approx time of arrival. However, on arrival, they didnt have any gluten free scones available as promised on the phone. One of the girls did run to see the manager and came back offering us free tea/coffee, a nice gesture, however when it is food you require it didnt quite make up for it.

Friendly staff, magnificent views of the lake and mountains from the outdoor terrace, and the biggest scones I've ever seen in my life!! Knocked off a star as it's slightly overpriced.
