I travelled up from the southwest of England via motor way and found the hotel very easily via google maps. The hotel was signposted into a large, sloped car park with space for 6 vehicles. Getting out of the drive was a little tricky but more than manageable. The gardens and access to the front door was kept very clean and tidy with some great garden features. I assume the main garden was private so didnt explore. The welcome was warm and inviting. I was allowed to get in the room earlier which allowed me to get my bags sorted out early. A short tour showed off a lounge area with large comfy sofas and a reading chair/desk, decorated and finished in a fitting style. The immediate local area housed a pub but no shops. An approx. 1.5 mile walk into Keswick was very easy and flat. Felt like 15 to 20 min walk. It was nice to be out of the way of the main town. The Farmers Arms Pub was a bit disappointing. The bar staff had a stinking cold. The food portions I was told were of a very good size though. Unfortunately, the cold fever/ cold stopped me in my tracks. There were several walking routes close by. Cat bells and Derwent water were both easy to get to and the A66 enabled further afield travel if needed. The owners were excellent company. Very warm and friendly. They helped with walking tips and local knowledge. Breakfast was a highlight! A good size and tasty filtered coffee. Access to cereal, cooked food and fresh orange/apple was available. The hotel was maintained very well and always felt clean. My room was a box room with a shower. More than enough for one person travelling. The shower room was a wet room so enabled me to dry off walking clothes, ready for the next day. I was able to hang and store folded clothes in a cupboard made for one. Space under the bed allowed for bags and a large tray for muddy boots. To summarise I enjoyed my stay at Powe House very much and would happily stay again or recommend it to anyone.
