Substandard workmanship and customer service Was recommended SPAW Construction to build a kitchen extension and garage conversion. Day 1, nobody showed and not a phone call to let me know. Day 2, got home to find the yellow sprayed foundation guide lines were in the wrong place. Clear the job was mismanaged from the start, poor communication within SPAW resulted in my being penalised to the extent that they upped the initial quote I accepted the job on by over 5500-00. No breakdown of these costs was ever given despite numerous requests. The target completion time of 8 weeks never happened, 2 work schedules later I was offered a third revised work schedule which I turned down. Work quality was clearly substandard, days passed with no workers showing. I suggested mediation which SPAW refused finally resulting in deadlock and my seeking legal advice to end the contract. For over 6 weeks I was left without downstairs lights, no hot water/boiler, a pipe with a lever sticking out the kitchen wall for water, just a trickle as the new pipework was left blocked (tested by Bournemouth Water - 4.5 litres per minute inside as opposed to 30 litres per minute at water inlet). Resulted in water pressure being insufficient to run my electric shower so had to shower at my neighbours. The new roof is like a pond in sections, was never sealed against the existing walls (left flapping) and the nails underneath the rubber roof protrude (not recessed as they should be). The cut-off top half of the old toilet downpipe was left on the wall above the new roof. Two waste pipe sized holes (6?) were left open through to the exterior in the upstairs toilet wall both stuffed with plastic bags. Windows are lopsided as are the window handles-even the PVC was chopped off down the side on one to get it in the relevant space. All new floors were uneven (up to 2cm difference in places). Even commented on by the carpet fitter. The foul waste drain backed up as it was poorly put in-SPAW dug 4 manholes for the waste to travel down and then plonked the main foul waste manhole directly outside my lounge sliding door on what was my patio, AGAINST my wishes. Even the new walls are not straight. I was bullied and shouted at by a SPAW worker! And I still have not been given my keys back despite asking for them. Cost to me over 33 000-00 to this stage. I took photographs throughout. Very little to comment positively on. New independent builders have had to rectify numerous issues throughout. Work has been viewed by independent tradesmen and inspected by a professional surveyor, all of which commented on the horrendous state of the build. I shudder to think of future issues that may occur due to the poor build. This is now in the hands of a solicitor so the nightmare goes on Most expensive, distressing material experience of my life.
