Unfortunately, whilst he was returning 4 x books which were part of the summer reading scheme (great initiative by the way ) he had accidentally forgotten to bring his record sheet. Sadly, rather than offer support and encouragement for his efforts, both him and my wife were bluntly refused another sheet (very demotivating) and after much tutting, raised eyebrows and resistance they finally agreed to give him the reward stickers for completing the 4 stories (stickers part of the programme). At no stage was a well done offered towards my son, or so much as a smile. I have no issue with the sheet, it was our mistake, but having courteous staff who encourage reading amongst young people should be a prerequisite of this role.
Please consider your mannerisms when dealing with young people, your actions can have lasting repercussions, both positive and negative!
