Visited Pickering, had a trip on the steam engine then a walk up to Pickering Castle. Like most English Heritage properties its mostly a ruin, however there are some good elements remaining such as a couple of towers and the newer built Chapel, which was converted into a courthouse. Fascinating to find out the original structure was built by William the Conqueror in around 1069. If you are in the area, it's worth a visit, guide book was reasonably priced and very informative.

Always peaceful and a wonderful place to visit. The history shown in places like these are amazing. Great place to bring the kids and give a little bit of freedom. The staff are absolutely inquisitive and always put customer satisfaction ahead of anything else. They also support local businesses in almost everything in the shop which, for me, is worth the visit in itself.
