A wonderful stay with family at Swallowtails. Mark and Freya (owners) are great friendly hosts, working hard to assist with any requirements/queries. The site is set out of the way, in the countryside; peaceful with wonderful views. Well equipped yurts and bell tents, excellent facilities (inc. ensuites for yurts!). Loads to entertain the kids in an environment where you let them safely roam free. A great place to stay. Thanks for an amazing weekend!

We spent two magical nights in 'Snapdragon' yurt at Swallowtails with extended family. A long awaited get together after too long apart! Mark and Freya (the hosts) have thought through every need of your stay: from the fun wheelbarrows to ferry your luggage from your car; to the practical ear plugs by the bed; to the 'glamping' touches of cafetieres, electric blankets and private showers - this is our kind of camping!

This is the second time we have been to Swallowtails and it will not be the last! Our bell tent 'Lapwing' had even more luxurious touches. Electric blankets on the comfy beds, not that we needed them as they sell Bark Blocks for 50p which burn all night in the wood burning stoves. Again there was everything we needed in the tent and it was beautifully decorated with interesting pieces of furniture. Our tent and the communal areas; kitchen, shower and toilet were pristine. The communal fire is a great way to get to know the other guests and share experiences. There is lots to do in the area. Pickering is a short walk with cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops. There is also two big supermarkets for supplies. A bit further a field there are the Yorkshire Moors and the seaside at Whitby. I would also recommend a day trip to York to visit the impressive York Minster. Freya and Mark have built something very special here and are super hosts.

We're not usually a camping family. I've not camped (deliberately) since doing the Duke of Edinburgh Award but this experience exceeded all expectations and we are all new glamping converts after a wonderful family gathering at Swallowtails. Tucked away on a peaceful site on the edge of Pickering, Swallowtails has fabulous amenities and every detail has been thought of: ensuite yurts, gas hob and kettle, campfires, BBQs, hammocks, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, cafetiere, tea, coffee, wood burning fires in the tents, lamps, really comfy beds with electric blankets and more! There's also a campsite shower block and kitchen complete with fridge-freezer, sink, kettle and microwave. Everything was beautifully clean, tidy and well maintained. The kids were fully occupied for the whole weekend playing with cousins on the substantial playground, in the sand pit, toasting marshmallows (available in the supplies shack along with firewood etc), and playing in the playroom. Freya and Mark are brilliant hosts who couldn't have made our stay more enjoyable. Highly recommend the pizza night they offer too where you can make your own pizza and get it expertly fired in the outdoor pizza oven and eat it under the stars by the central campfire. Utter bliss. We will be back!

YOU ARE NEVER TOO OLD TO GLAMP! Fabulous multi-generation weekend meeting up with family from four points of the compass. Youngest aged 3 through to us in our 70s. When the family 91 year old matriarch joined as a day visitor that made four generations! Ours was the Kingfisher Lotus-belle tent where we stayed toasty and warm despite the external temperature drop. The electric blanket was brill and the bed so comfy. Big and small kids bonded over pizza making (choose your own toppings) and around the campfire as the stars and glow sticks came out. We were so content making family memories that we didn't want to stray off-site but there is so much to do in the immediate area, from moor top to river valleys; forest trails and foodie trails and steam trains to beaches at Whitby. Freya and Mark are knowledgeable and relaxed hosts. If you have a family celebration cancel the hotel or party house - Swallowtails will give you a much better tale to tell!
