Recently rediscovered and gradually being restored hilltop castle. Wonderful location in the Golden Valley. Limited off road parking nearby, accessible site but not wheelchair friendly. Recent work means there are steps to the top of the motte and down to the North keep. Free to enter with a large information board at the entrance giving details of recent work, finds and appeal. There is also a site guide available at 1, a bargain! The site is extensive and more is being uncovered, (see recent chapel excavations). This is a great place to visit, even on a dull day. Stop off and support the Preservation Trust particularly the Castle Chapel appeal. Well worth it!

An interesting 11th century Norman castle ruin set in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. The site seems to be a work in progress where restoration and excavation work is ongoing. However, the site offers beautiful views and short walks around the wooded trails. A nice place to sit and enjoy the night sky where it is dark enough to see the milky way. Parking is limited however, I have never had problems finding a space on my visits.

Not a lot left to be seen, but the site itself is interesting. Recent excavation and finds added a bit more understanding to the history of this castle. Further excavation is planned and donors and volunteers are welcome. The castle hill can be slippery, so pay attention. A small layby where you can park, is near to the entrance gate, on the left hand side of the road.
