My Partner moved into Willow Court in Whittlesey last October and I am dismayed by the deterioration in the standard of care. Admittedly Longhurst Group has had a challenging time at Willow Court as they opened as the Covid pandemic hit the UK, and I can appreciate that there might have been financial implications. However there are issues that still need to be highlighted 1: When my Partner signed the tenancy agreement, no one mentioned the fact that Virgin Media has the monopoly for phone, telephone and internet connection. So if you want these you are forced to sign up with Virgin. My partner's phone/internet bill has gone from 29 per month to 64 a month which is diabolical, especially as they didn't afford her the courtesy of informing her prior to sign up. 2: Perhaps due to financial restrictions Longhurst has made an effort to keep the caring staff numbers to the minimum. This has resulted in the staff being under pressure and although my partner has a care plan, she is not receiving the length of care time that Cambridgeshire Social Services are paying for. I believe that limiting the number of carers is unfair to the care team and is dangerous, especially as there is only one member of staff on duty at night when some residents have complex needs. 3: The care staff have so little time because of the pressure they are under, that they only manage the bare essentials and don't have the time or perhaps the inclination to "care" about their residents. A classic example of this is on my partner's return from hospital today her milk had passed the sell by date. Inspite of this there were no options considered for supplying her with enogh milk for a cup of tea this evening or in the morning. So she will be unable to enjoy a warm drink until I take some over tomorrow evening. In my books that is not the example of a team that cares. My partner is extremely upset by this situation, because having made the difficult decision to move somewhere that would provide added care, this is not her experience and she feels let down. She likens it to living in a care home because her autonomy is not being respected. My advice to anyone considering moving here would be to ask the difficult questions, because although it is a beautifully designed complex, there is no point being surrounded by smart decor if you're not happy with the level and standard of care.
