I work as a part time HGV driver, doing full time Uni at the same time. I have years of experience delivering all over the UK and also doing multi drop in Central London(I worked for soft drinks company for 4 years doing 12-28 drops a day). I was sent to Palletine by my agency just to cover two days, not really knowing what to expect. Generally the people in the office are helpful, some of the managers have very good people's skills, dealing in a calm and respectful manner with annoyed and stressed drivers. Employees tend to help eachother. That's great! I was sent to Central London on my first day to do 9 drops i.e one standard blue pallet for each drop. I was delivering to the posh areas, very rich private customers and wealth management companies. The whole run sheet was very disorganized, some of the phone numbers were missing, delivery points had wrong addresses etc. Many customers were dwelling for 30 minutes or more if they should take the delivery or not. Nobody informed them that it's a curbside delivery and that the driver won't be taking 120 kg exotic bubinga table to the 4th floor and setting it up for the baroness who ordered it. Everything is being run on the electronic pod, so the company knows which job you're at, and what has been done, time and date of arrival and departure, customers signatures, lorry location etc. They still want you to fill the paperwork providing the same data which is already on the e-pod. Sorry guys but this is really stupid and inefficient. The 80's are gone forever along with the neverending paperwork, mullets, sideburns, bushy mustache and unfortunately great music. When I did all the deliveries and was heading back to the depot, I received a phone call from the office and was told that I had to do two more collections. I refused and said that I'm not interested in doing 13-14 hrs shift and that 11.5 hrs shift is enough. The guy on the phone got irritated and told me that's expected from me to work those ours. I refused and told him to hire more drivers or Chuck Norris. This company if run properly could be really great for drivers and efficient at the same time. It's impossible to survive on the market when saving money at all costs is the main goal! The things I've described above are as certain as that in every warehouse across the UK there's a guy on a forklift called Steve.
