John Richardson & Son

Firstly, it needs to be said that the previous reviewer - Garry Rooney - is an employee of the company and works at the Scotland Road depot. It is highly unethical therefore to post a review pretending to be a customer. So here's a proper review from an actual customer. I have had several interactions with JR Richardson's. On the first occasion I ordered a small amount of softwood and hardwood for collection. When I collected it they failed to give me the whole order (and I failed to properly check it). Subsequently I placed a larger order for delivery. Part of the order was for 100 metres of what was described as Planed Square Edge timber. When I checked it after it had been delivered I found that it was not square edged - one long side was 8% longer than the other. Upon investigation it transpired that the machining guys knew it wasn't square but sent it out anyway. The manager refused to do anything about this, which caused me a lot of extra work. I have had two emails ignored and on another occasion was given false information about hardwood stocks. To be honest based on my experience I am amazed that Richardson's have any customers at all - I certainly won't be using them again.

The best timber/builder's merchants I've dealt with in the North West. Steven is passionate about his job and incredibly knowledgeable about the company's products. Louise on the phone is also always lovely. I've not received my order yet so can't comment on that side of things, but they're the best I've dealt with by far.

Really poor service. Ordered a door weeks ago on the strength of the service I received in the shop on the day, and paid a deposit. Promised a 2 week turnaround and a named joiner. Silly me. Still waiting. I will change this review if they sort things out, but I just keep getting fobbed off. How long does it take to cut down and finish one standard door template?! Shop around. UPDATE: The door has been delivered after a few months but it's the wrong size. Richardsons say this is nothing to do with them, it's the fault of the joiner they outsourced the measuring to. However they are still requesting full payment and have also asked me to remove this review!
