The hotel is beautiful, with delicious breakfast and great views of either the park on the back or the Notting hill neighborhood on the front. The location is amazing. right around the corner from all the shops and restaurants of notting hill. the underground stop is like 4 blocks away and super fast to central london. Everything about the Portobello was fantastic, but the best was the people. The staff at the Portobello are world class. My wife and I were here for a week and needed help a couple times, the staff took care of us better than we could have dreamed. 10/10 would recommend and will be back.

Quirky is the word. Nice big rooms with amazingly big confy bed but small bathroom. The smallest we've ever been in I think. Quite pricey but it is Notting Hill. But perfect if on a one night trip to the area or eating at Core which is just across the road. So if you aren't too bothered about your bathroom space it's a good find.

We loved our stay at the Portobello hotel. We bought our stay using buy a gift vouchers, the voucher was for 1 night but we called ahead and checked that we could use two vouchers concurrently which we could do we bought two vouchers and had a two night stay. The buy a gift option made this a good value stay in a pretty area. We stayed in the marvellous room which was decorated in a quirky style, previous reviewers had described rooms as dated, I can see where they are coming from, some of the furniture and fittings are coming up to needing replacement however it didnt affect our enjoyment of the room which was spacious and had character. We were on the lower ground floor and had a small terrace area although it wasnt particularly usable. The hotel itself is a beautiful building and overlooks immaculate gardens which sadly we werent permitted to access but we admired from the window. Breakfast was continental but was fresh and varied. Staff without exception were excellent, very professional, helpful and polite. I would recommend this as a good place to stay in Notting Hill without hesitation

We spent 2 nights at this hotel before Xmas, and had a somewhat mixed experience. Firstly, the decor and style of the hotel is wonderful. We loved the Christmas decorations and tree in the main lounge downstairs, as well as the style of the rooms. The honesty bar in the lounge is also very nice, and the location so central in Notting Hill (as well as next door to the wonderful Michelin Star Core Restaurant) can't be beat. Having said that, some things let the stay down. There was a fire alarm at 10pm on our second night and we had to evacuate. This can happen, however with a 6 month baby who was previously sleeping soundly, this was quite an inconvenience and led to us standing on the street in our pyjamas for 15 minutes, followed by an hour of trying to get our baby back to sleep. There was no acknowledgement of the inconvenience afterwards or at check-out, and for a hotel of this price and quality, we think a small gesture to the people who were in their rooms when the alarm went off might have been appropriate. We also had a small issue with housekeeping who seemed to not focus on the sign hanging on the door, but rather whether you had handed your key back in at reception as a indication for whether you room was free to be cleaned. This would have been helpful to know in advance as again, with a baby, there were certain hours of the day that he was asleep. Overall the hotel worked fine for the main purpose of our trip (a lunch at Core), however we'd hesitate to book again as the overall experience didn't quite meet the price tag. It's certainly not a poor hotel, and we wouldn't discourage anyone else from staying there if Notting Hill is where they wanted to be based.
