Karen, the owner of this property LIED in her communication to me! After claiming my booking (made on Airbnb in July 2020) had been cancelled, when it hadn't been cancelled by me, she tried to amend my booking, taking away one night saying that she had advertised it after it was cancelled, and someone else had now booked the first night. When she didn't want to cancel that person, it seemed sensible to suggest she should cancel my booking, then at least the deposit would be returned - here is the LIE - "I just tried to cancel the booking but it says you will only get a refund if the guest cancels so please can you do this your end" If the host cancels you get all of your deposit back, if you cancel you don't! According to Airbnb if I had followed her advice and cancelled, she would have got 80% of the deposit. Karen did the right thing in the end and cancelled the booking, so the deposit will be returned, but didn't respond to any messages or pick up the phone after I caught her in the LIE. PS Please don't claim you were trying to do what is right by me. I did not cancel the booking and made it clear my intention was to visit as planned - on Friday you said - we would love you to still come, it will be a tonic, then when I confirmed I had updated the payment details on AirBnB you came back and said - yes we will see you then, then 5 minutes later, sorry I cancelled it on my system and someone else has booked for the Friday, can you change your dates. Rather than go back to that person, you wanted me to cancel. Whatever the terms are, the way you handled the matter was appalling. Have a fabulous summer :)
