Dealing with the reception staff is a very different matter, for quite a few years now I've consistently had bad and often quite distressing encounters with various people.
This morning I called to request an urgent call back. The person I spoke to was cold and abrupt (as is the norm), and told me after a very brief conversation that a doctor would call me back. After the call ended I realised that she had not taken any details from me to confirm who I was. I called back, and the same person answered the phone, she said she didn't need to ask who I was because they have an automated system that recognises my number. I told her that regardless of whether they have such a system they should ALWAYS check to confirm that I am that patient due to data protection, and I said that it could be that my partner had been using my phone not myself. To this she suggested that obviously due to my female voice it would not be my partner, I advised her that I could be gay/bi-sexual/transgender and that this kind of comment was totally unacceptable, she put the phone down. There are very concerning issues raised here around client confidentiality/data protection/equality and diversity, that go beyond a receptionist being stroppy and unfriendly.
