It's sad to see the royal oak close it's doors for its last time

Unfortunately the Royal Oak has now closed for good, very sad news. The pub company Inglenook based in Blackburn sold the pub without anyone knowing about it until they phoned the landlord on Tuesday 14th March that they were coming next day to do a stock take and the pub was closing. They arrived on the 15th and took everything out of the pub which left the landlord and his family technically homeless but Inglenook told him they had a pub in Todmorden they could go too. They took all his furniture and belongings to the pub only to find that the pub wasn't open and trading and when they went inside the living accommodation was in a complete and disgusting state. It was dirty and full of rubbish there was no heating or running water but Inglenook expected them to clean it up. They are now living with one of his daughters back in Oldham and have had to put his furniture in storage. What a disgusting way for a company to treat someone. It was the last remaining pub on Manchester Road from Hollinwood until Oldham town centre, it was always a nice friendly pub with a good mix of customers with a real community atmosphere which has been lost forever. I was landlord at the Royal Oak for 3 years and was there when Robinsons sold the pub to Inglenook. I know all the customers and consider them all as friends and it's sad that a social community has been lost forever thanks to the disgusting and underhand actions of Inglenook.
