I enrolled in a 5 day silent meditation retreat Mon-Fri, the first one I had ever done with Gaia. Unfortunately there was a small outbreak of Covid and I started to feel unwell and had to return home on the Thursday, once back I tested positive. Up until that point I enjoyed the silence and meditation retreat, not quite sure about the type of Buddhism they deliver, it's aimed at a western market and didn't have the ethos of Tibetan Buddhist beliefs of which I've been practicing for 20 years. The location and house itself is set in such a picturesque part of Devonshire, rolling green hills with many different footpaths which I took full advantage of in the first few days of my stay. The vegetarian/vegan food they provided was absolutely top draw restaurant quality!! You're required to do one hours work per day to help out with the general running of the House and garden's, I was assigned gardening which I thoroughly enjoyed. If you need to revive and escape from society for a short while Gaia House is definitely worth a visit, if you seriously want to get into Buddhism I would suggest get into a more traditional practice such as Tibetan or Zen. Gaia is run more as a business, each course will cost you dearly and it's all designed to pull you in ready for the next one. Namaste

This was a four day silent retreat and my first ever retreat. This was also my first ever attempt to meditate. I can't claim I was totally successful, but I do now have a foundation to build meditation into my busy life outside of Gaia House. And I claim that as a big success. Everyone was lovely, as you would expect. And the meals were way better than I thought they would be. A wonderful place of peace, calm and contemplation.
