Problem is not the staff but a multilayered impenetrable bureaucracy that makes it appear that the last thing this institution want to do is to help students. As a new student arriving on the campus all I wanted to do was to know what modules were available to me on my course. To me this seems like a relatively simple task, but I was passed around for weeks between departments, with no one able to give a straight answer. Unbelievably, even when I was finally able to locate the physical building and speak to a member of staff there, I was told to email the course tutor. Did they have an email? no I was told to check the website, which of course is similarly impenetrable. Again, I don't want to make this a criticism of the staff themselves, because I'm sure they are doing the best they can, but this student services organisation is the worst organisation I have ever encountered in terms of service. I think the problem lies with systematic and institutional faults. On my second year at the University, I was trying to register my modules for the new year and found that I couldn't register. I contacted my tutor and they told me that student services had decided (for what reason I don't know) to prevent returning students from registering until the term had started. This made no sense and meant that students were left in limbo. Eventually our tutors just manually enrolled us on the system. All round terrible. Give each school in the university their own student services department. Would makes things run much smoother
