AMSD (Andy Mann Structural Design Ltd)

First experience of requiring structural design for our extension, I wouldnt recommend this company. The design is was overly complicated, stating that the beams would need on site welding, they actually required bolts. As a result of the engineer making the design overly complicated, an on site visit was required, of which was an additional cost. The engineer turned up 1hr 20mins late, resulting in additional costs for us (client) as we had arranged for the steel engineer and builders to be on site. The builders and steel engineer were happy after the visit, but as the paying client I was upset by the dis-honesty. The additional site visit was reduced from 180 to 150 as a gesture of good will which was disappointing and came with no apology. They gave a good quote with enough detail, price was comparable to other companies. If making designs overly complicated to bring about additional fees, it would be a good idea to include an on site visit in the cost up front.

The team at AMSD recently specified a steel beam for a structural wall removal project. Very easy to discuss my requirements with, fast turnaround on the calculations and documentation, which subsequently made procuring the steel, installation and the building control process very easy for a first-timer. Reasonably priced for the project & asked relevant questions rather than making blind assumptions. You know you're in good hands when the owner of the business takes time to talk through a seemingly minor scope such as mine.
