Codnor Primary School has some good points but it's policies in teaching children with special educational needs are inadequate, teaching staff do not seem to listen to parent's concerns about their children if they are worried about their work, for example worries about the amount of homework they are given and the weekly tests they undergo, leaving many children upset and not wanting to go to school and in our own personal circumstances, resulting in our son becoming a non attender and a very nervous boy, and to add insult to injury our daughter attended the school up until the beginning of year 3, when too much pressure was applied and she became very unhappy and asked to be moved schools, and after a discussion with her class teacher about our Daughter's concerns, the teacher kept her in at break and tried to help her understand the homework, this method also applies to children who get below average on the weekly tests, punishment in the form of the child losing break time privileges, and in my honest opinion punishment because they do not understand the tests is a bit harsh when really more support and encouragement should be applied rather than punishing them for not being able to understand certain tests and subjects. On the whole after speaking with many other parents about the school we do feel that many changes need to be made in favour of the children's happiness as well as their academic life.
